Regina Spektor thanks 'patient' Brisbane fans

SHE may have been nearly an hour late, but Regina Spektor rewarded patient Brisbane fans with an enchanting evening.

The Russian-American singer has reportedly been feeling under the weather lately, but there was no explanation for the 10pm start to last night's show.

"Thank you so much for being so patient," she said before opening the show with an a capella Ain't No Cover.

She even indulged one fan who yelled out "I love you" with "I love you too", which inspired a flurry of "I love you's" from the crowd.

Despite filling the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre's Great Hall, Spektor's show had an intimate feeling.

Backed by a three-piece band of drums, keyboards and a cello, Spektor played a mix of songs from her six albums including Better, On The Radio, Blue Lips and from her latest album, Small Town Moon and All the Rowboats.

She regularly stopped to take drinks in between songs, but if she was still feeling unwell it didn't show.

It's hard to believe Spektor grew up thinking she had a "silly" voice.

She sounded as smooth as melted butter as her voice slid up and down the scales in Ode to Divorce.

Her only trip up was during the song The Call, from the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, in the middle of which she muttered "I have no idea what I'm doing", laughed and then continued with the song.

Spektor treated the crowd to a three-song encore, finishing with the touching Samson, which punters had been requesting the entire show.

Last night's Brisbane show kicked off Spektor's six-date national tour, which continues to Sydney this weekend before travelling to Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
