Report casts light on Sunshine Coast population growth

THE Sunshine Coast will grow by 34% and more than 97,000 people by 2026, according to a report released by the Sunshine Coast Council.

Where will these people be living? Where will the students be schooled? These are some of the many questions answered by the Population and Household Forecast Report - the latest in the council's bag of demographic products.

Regional planning portfolio councillor Christian Dickson said the report provided the community with readily accessible, easy to use and understand information about how the region was changing in terms of projected population, age, dwellings and household types up to 2026.

"Population Forecast provides up-to-date and consistent demographic information for community groups, investors, business, students and the general public," Cr Dickson said.

It included projections for the Sunshine Coast and each Locality of Interest to 2026, he said.

"The report is formatted to present the data in simple, clear tables and charts supported by informative commentary on how the forecasts were developed," Cr Dickson said.

He said this was the first time demographic projections had been prepared by the council at this detailed level and made publicly available.

"The new report will help support evidence-based decision making on the Sunshine Coast for council, the business sector and the community, and contribute to the planning and delivery of services to meet the needs of our growing community," he said.

"For example, a new business can find information about population and age structure to determine whereabouts they wish to be based, while a property investor can locate specific data on dwellings and household types."
