68-year-old woman dies in head on with truck
6.15pm: THE Capricorn Highway has been reopened following a fatal traffic crash this morning.
11.40am: POLICE have confirmed a 68-year-old woman has died in a traffic crash which occurred at about 8.40am this morning.
Acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Rob Smith said investigations are underway.
"Initial investigations reveal a white sedan has crossed to the wrong side of the road into the path of a white Kenworth prime mover," Sgt Smith said.
"As a result a 68-year-old female who was the sole occupant of the sedan is unfortunately deceased."
The Forensic Crash Unit are at the scene and traffic is being diverted around via a dirt road.
Police are appealing for motorists to delay their travel until the road is cleared, which is expected to happen mid to late afternoon.
10.20am: THE Capricorn Highway is currently closed in both directions following a serious traffic crash east of Emerald this morning.
Initial information suggests around 9.15am two vehicles collided on the highway about 20 kilometres east of Emerald.
Police and emergency services remain on scene.
Motorists are asked to seek an alternate route or delay their travel plans.
It is believed one person has died as a result of the accident.
There is no further information available at this stage.

It is believed to be about 25kms east of Emerald near a railway line, but not impacting the railway line.
