Resolutions to reality
LOCAL gym memberships are growing this month as residents put their resolutions into practice.
After hitting the streets to find out what your new year's resolutions would be, The South Burnett Times discovered a lot of you were hoping to increase fitness levels.
And a gym in Kingaroy is certainly seeing the crowds pour in.
Local gym manager Bri Costanzo said on the first morning after the new year she was inundated with calls and membership enquiries.
And gyms across the region were experiencing the same.
"We had about 50 calls this morning of people enquiring about joining up or the classes," Ms Costanzo said.
"In the last few days we have seen a lot of new faces and people looking to start fresh with their new year's resolution."
But Ms Costanzo said it was normal for fresh faces to disappear after a few weeks.
"We find a portion of new members who join in the new year stop going or lose motivation," she said.
Personal trainer Joel Wolski said it was important to keep motivated to stop repeating the same resolution each year.
"The key is to find something you enjoy doing as long as it involves fitness," he said.
"It should never feel forced to go to the gym and one of the ways to fix that is by working out with friends."
Mr Wolski has been in the industry for a decade and said it was important not to burn out, too.
"The hardest part is always the first month," he said.
"You just have to stick to it until it becomes habit and to make sure you set achievable and realistic goals."
