IT WILL soon be safer for children to cross the road at Kumbia when the South Burnett Regional Council finishes an upgrade to the Bunya Highway.

The council started work children's crossing outside the Kumbia State School this week.

It will wrap up in January 2018.

This project includes road widening, kerb and channel work, a new concrete footpath, traffic islands at the children crossing, signage, line marking and bitumen sealing.

In order to provide a safe work environment, traffic will be directed by traffic lights or traffic controllers and will be guided through the works with minor disruptions anticipated.

During construction there may be some restrictions to property access for short periods but residents will be notified in advance.

For local residents with concerns during the construction, phone the council on 41899100.
