James thinks Rockhampton may be a diamond in the rough

JAMES Wise reaches into the nether-regions of his priceless backyard pile of bits and pieces and pulls out the rock he says shows Rockhampton could be sitting on a diamond field.

The North Rockhampton man, who appeared to live a modest life, owns a large collection of rocks and minerals that show all the indicating factors that diamond lies beneath the surface within a 100km radius of Rockhampton.

Mr Wise is a metallurgist, a hobby he said stretches back more than 50 years.

He has the evidence to prove his claims that the matter beneath Rockhampton soil contains minerals associated with diamond.

Among the minerals and diamond deposits Mr Wise possesses are garnet, magnetite and chromite.

In the past three years, Mr Wise, 75, said he had excavated about five tonnes of earth from a property near Rockhampton. He said he hoped to reduce that rock and mineral matter right down to 70kg of semi-precious stones.

Mr Wise claimed he had found two diamond pipes at a Rockhampton property, he did not wish to reveal.

He said a lot of the minerals he had found which were associated with diamond weren't crystals.

Inside Mr Wise's house, his office wall is decorated with mineral separation technology patents and trademarks from more than five countries including China, Russia and the USA.

Mr Wise also has in his possession the very first samples from two of the world's richest mineral mines: Bougainville Copper and Porgera Gold mines in Papua New Guinea.
