Australia to meet New Zealand in World Cup final

RUGBY LEAGUE: Next week's World Cup final will be between Australia and New Zealand after the two teams won contrasting semi-finals in London yesterday.

The Kangaroos will be looking to avenge the 2008 defeat against the Kiwis after romping home 64-0 against Fiji a couple of hours after Shaun Johnson's last-gasp try and conversion broke England hearts at Wembley as New Zealand won 20-18.

Australia scored 11 tries, including a Jarryd Hayne hat-trick.

Tim Sheens' side went on a Sunday morning stroll to make its 13th straight World Cup final as Hayne took his his tournament try-scoring tally to nine, while winger Darius Boyd had a double.

Earlier England, for whom Sam Burgess was at his rampaging best, looked for a final spot before Johnson's got New Zealand out of jail.

England was leading 18-14 heading into the final minute before Johnson performed one of his trademark jinking runs to dive over.

Johnson's conversion sparked jubilation among the New Zealanders and dispair for the home team.
