IS THE end looming for Mackay's Myer store?
Rumours have begun swirling about the department store giant since a southern media report recently stated up to 20 stores were due to close, but others report a number closer to seven stores.
A Myer spokesperson couldn't rule out the Mackay store closing or being affected in the near future.
"The business is currently conducting a strategic review of all aspects of its operations, including asset productivity," the spokesperson said.
"We won't pre-empt the outcome of the review which is due to be completed by the end of the year."
Exact employee numbers for the Mackay store were not disclosed by the Myer spokesperson.
A spokesperson for Caneland Central Shopping Centre, where the Mackay store is located, said they believed the department store was staying put.
"Myer has a long term lease with Caneland Central," the spokesperson said.
"There has been no discussion with the department store about any changes."
Myer first opened its doors in Mackay on October 13, 2011 as part of Caneland Central's $230 million extensions.
It was amongst fashionable and popular company including Witchery, Sportsgirl, Jacqui E, Peter Alexander and Forever New.
Model Jennifer Hawkins came to town as part of opening celebrations for the double-storey store which offers customers a range of products from clothing to cosmetics.
There are currently 67 Myer stores across Australia, which employ about 13,000 people.
Outside of Brisbane, in Queensland, there are stores in Townsville, Cairns, Maroochydore and Toowoomba.
Would you be sad to see Myer leave Mackay?
