Santa's elf didn't intend on offending anyone

MARIE Williams was simply trying to spread some cheer in the week before Christmas, but her upbeat approach offended someone.

Mrs Williams, who has been volunteering at the Mater Hospital day surgery unit for the past six years, dressed up as a Santa's helper elf, complete with tinsel, fur boots and elfin headwear.

The costume was a hit on the first day and many requested she wear it again the following day.

But when she did, a grinch complained and she had to get changed.

"I love dressing up, I love having fun, and from the moment I stepped out of my car someone said to me 'oh Marie, you look fabulous, it would only be Marie who would do something like that'."

"I was told that someone was offended by what I had on, so I had to change and it was how I left home to come, so I had to put on theatre scrubs," Mrs Williams said.

"It certainly wasn't my intention to offend anyone, and most people loved my Christmas spirit."

MESSAGES RECEIVED BY THE DAILY MERCURY:

MR, North Mackay Regarding Mater Hospital Santa's elf: I was also a patient in day surgery and she made me forget my problems by cheering me and others with her happy-go-lucky personality. Great work Santa's helper. I hope to see you again next year. Happy New Year to you elf.

NB, Dysart Regarding Mater Christmas elf: I have to say it brightened my day and I know while I was lying in recovery 2, the nurses were asking her to go into recovery 3, where other patients were asking to see her. Good on you for cheering up my day and other people's day. I hope the Grinch didn't dampen your Christmas spirit.
