Search continues for missing man

A SEARCH for a man who went missing after his boat capsized on the Gold Coast has reached its second day.

Worongary man Gavin Studwell, 39, went fishing with a female friend off shore from Surfers Paradise on Tuesday night when their boat was hit by two freak waves.

The boat took on water and sunk.

The pair treaded water for three to four hours before they were separated.

The woman swam to shore and raised the alarm at Marina Mirage at about 2am on Wednesday.

Police, SES, the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter and surf life savers have been searching for Mr Studwell since.

So far they have only found an Esky, a black jacket, belonging to the woman, and a bucket.

An extensive search of the area between Surfers Paradise and South Stradbroke Island failed to find the missing man or the submerged 4.2 metre fibreglass boat.

The search continues.
