Seven ways you can help Kalila's quest for a Smart Pup

TINGOORA teenager Kalila Vukelic is on a quest to get a Smart Pup.

This specially trained seizure-response dog will make life a little easier for the Kingaroy State High School student, who has a rare neurological disorder called Rett syndrome.

Her family and school are inviting the community to get on board with their mission to raise the $20,000 required for Kalila's Smart Pup.

There are many options to donate to a campaign like Kalila's, and plenty of ways to have fun while you support the good cause.

Here are some of our favourite ideas:

1. Dog wash

Since the aim is to raise money for a Smart Pup, why not get your friends together and offer to wash a neighbour or family friend's dog for a donation to Kalila's campaign?

If they do not have pets, perhaps their car may need a good wash for a great cause?

2. Bake sale

Get busy in the kitchen and bake some slices, biscuits and cakes to sell at the markets, your community group or workplace. Ask for a donation to Kalila's campaign for each of the baked goods.

Perhaps you could even try to make some dog treats to sell, too.

3. Pet competition

Ask for a donation for Kalila as entry into a pet competition.

Have different categories and encourage participants to dress up their pets in costumes.

There could even be a category for the most clever dog in honour of Kalila's Smart Pup.

4. Make a donation

If you are unable to run your own fundraiser but would still like to help Kalila's quest for a Smart Pup, you can make an online donation.

Community members can donate to Kalila's campaign by visiting her page at www.smartpups.org.au/campaigns/kalilas-smart-pup/.

5. Host your own movie night

Get your friends together and hire out a hall, backyard or lounge room for a movie night in honour of Kalila's quest.

Ask for a donation towards the campaign for entry to see the film.

6. Raffles

They may be the oldest fundraisers in the book but have been proven to work.

Put together small raffle items or a 100 board at your next event or community group and sell some raffle tickets to raise money for the Smart Pup.

7. Get involved

Rather than making up your own event, you could get involved and support an existing fundraising event for Kalila's Smart Pup.

Keep an eye out in The South Burnett Times for information about any upcoming fundraising events.

There have been events ranging from a high tea to a crazy sock day, so there is something for everyone.

If you are running an event for Kalila's quest and would like to give the community the opportunity to get involved, send the details to editorial@southburnetttimes.com.au.
