Shop pulls out of Shell servo redevelopment

TOOWOOMBA fish shop Stoney the Fishmonger has pulled out of the redevelopment of the Shell service station on Ruthven St.

The move opens up a spot in the upgrade of the servo on the intersection of Ruthven and Alderley Sts, which closed for construction last month.

Store owner Megan Stone, who has owned Stoney the Fishmonger on Herries St for six years, said she was not ready to expand just yet but would consider it in the future.

"It was just a couple of weeks ago that we made the decision," she said.

"We're just going to focus on our shop right now and maybe down the track we'll look at expansion, but for the moment we're just not ready."

Cafe Pump@123 will still be bringing a drive-through coffee house to the site, which is due for completion in September.

LJ Hooker Commercial managing director Mike Stewart called the open space an exciting development, with about 27,000 vehicles passing the site every day.

"The southern end of Ruthven St has undergone a major injection in private investment across the spectrum of commercial operators," he said.

"Coles Express will offer 24/7 convenience for shoppers while Pump will provide the early morning caffeine fix for motorists.

"We're interested in hearing proposals from retailers with a complementary offer that will position their business, and the redeveloped service station in general, for future growth."

The building is being handled by Toowoomba's McNab Construction.
