Shoplifter hits store in shirt he stole days earlier

A COAST couple who stole products worth nearly $800 from Myer was nabbed when they went back for more.

Ethan Lucas Thomas, 19 and Megan Joy Miller, 21, were caught on CCTV putting perfume, clothes and a wallet into a bag and leaving the Sunshine Plaza department store about 3.30pm on May 12.

Four days later when they returned - Thomas wearing a T-shirt taken on the previous visit - staff spotted them and phoned police, who found the pair with another $480 worth of stolen goods.

On Wednesday, in Maroochydore Magistrates court the pair pleaded guilty to stealing from Myer on the two occasions and also from home wares store Bed Bath and Table.

Duty lawyer Nathan Turner said the pair both worked part-time and Miller was studying full-time.

"Mr Thomas said the offending was pure stupidity," he said.

"He was jealous of people having nice things and he wasn't able to afford them."

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said "stupid" was an understatement.

He ordered Thomas and Miller serve 12-month good behaviour bonds and pay almost $400 each in restitution.
