Should you really be going to emergency?

EMERGENCY hospital departments should be kept for emergencies only.

This is the message from Queensland Heath.

It has launched the Keep Emergency for Emergencies campaign to discourage Queenslanders from attending emergency departments with GP-related health concerns.

The campaign uses humour through GP-type situations in emergency departments, such as cold and flu symptoms or prescription requests, aiming to raise awareness around a responsible use of emergency departments.

Market research conducted by the department shows there is low awareness, especially among parents of children under 14 years, of how the 13 HEALTH phone service, a local GP, or a pharmacist can be useful in certain medical situations, rather than an emergency department.
