Smith claims Maroons have tough time training for Origin I

QUEENSLAND captain Cameron Smith admits his team has not had an ideal preparation going into tonight's opening State of Origin clash against New South Wales at ANZ Stadium.

Winger Darius Boyd carried an ankle injured into camp, while five-eighth Johnathan Thurston has battled the flu and uncertainty over when his wife will give birth to the couple's first child.

Back-rower Ben Te'o will play, but his preparations have been disrupted due to a Queensland Police investigation over an assault allegation from Brisbane woman Katie Lewis.

The Blues have picked an in-form side and have enjoyed a relaxed preparation, some betting agencies listing them favourites despite losing the past seven series.

"We've had our own worries ... But we've taken care of that and hopefully our preparation is good enough," Smith said.

The skipper chuckled at the Dad's Army tag thrown at the Queenslanders by some sections of the NSW media.

"It's fact isn't it? There are a couple of guys that are 31 already, I think Ash Harrison's 32, there are a few of us turning 30 this year," he said.

"If Mal (coach Mal Meninga) thought there were better players out there who were younger, they'd be here."
