South Burnett league back with a bang

RUGBY LEAGUE: Footy will return with style on Saturday as Kingaroy hosts an A-grade double header.

It is two weeks since the teams have taken to the field but training has continued with season honours up for grabs.

The Murgon Mustangs will be looking to get a win on the board against the Stags, with the Nanango side coming out on top the two times the teams have met this season.

With a bye in the previous round, it has been three weeks since the Mustangs have played a game and coach Paul Brunjes said the players were looking forward to getting stuck in.

"It will be good to see where we are at because we were beaten handsomely last time and we want to improve on that,” he said.

"Everyone is feeling really good and we will have a couple of our players back from injury.”

Notably, the game will mark the return of Ezekiel Stanley, who will take his place in the Murgon forwards after being sidelined for eight weeks due to injury.

Brunjes believes Nanango's Shane Argent has been the best player in the South Burnett competition this season and alongside the likes of Patrick McCallum and Blake Harvey, the coach knows his team needs to be at the top of their game to challenge the Stags.

"A lot of their players aren't superstars but they do their job and keep turning up,” Brunjes said.

Stags coach Matt Heit said the team had been working hard to maintain their form and were looking forward to a good hit-out.

"It is important to keep going and move towards finals,” he said.

The Red Ants will be wanting to score a win against the Hornets in front of their home crowd.

The Kingaroy side has been plagued with injuries, with four players out for the season.

Coach Darren Geiger said while the team would be light on players this week, the break from footy would benefit the team in the long run and they were ready to step up and take on the Hornets.

"We are looking forward to getting back into footy.”
