South Burnett residents owe millions in SPER debts
SOUTH Burnett residents owe more than $7million in outstanding debts with the State Penalties Enforcement Registry.
In the Kingaroy postcode alone, 1081 people owe $2,113,000 to SPER according to a Queensland Treasury report dated up to November 30, 2015.
Murgon and Cherbourg residents living in the 4605 postcode are the most in debt to the government body with more than $3million owed.
SPER is responsible for the collection and enforcement of unpaid infringement notice fines, court-ordered penalties, offender debt recovery orders and offender levies.
Debtors who do not pay their fine can have their licence suspended, vehicle immobilised, property seized or imprisoned.
