Steroid use a type of self-medication, court told

A ONCE-promising sportsman handed a 20-month jail term used steroids to self-medicate after an injury, his barrister says.

Sunshine Coast man Christopher Anthony Cumming-Creed, 32, breached an earlier suspended sentence and pleaded guilty on Tuesday to possessing drugs including ecstasy and steroids.

Defence barrister Mark McCarthy told Justice Peter Davis the steroid use was a form of self-medication.

Cumming-Creed was sentenced to 20 months jail but had been in custody for 358 days, so could be eligible for parole release this week.
