Store sale to bring in buyers
BY FRIDAY afternoon more than 1000 young cattle will have changed hands at the Coolabunia saleyards following the Kingaroy Combined Agents Special Store and Weaner Sale.
Stock agent James Bredhauer from Aussie Land and Livestock said he expected it to be a strong sale.
"It's looking very good,” Mr Bredhauer said.
"We've got some good numbers coming in with about 1100-odd weaners booked and good lines of Euro-cross cattle.”
Competition from quality young cattle is likely to be fierce as graziers take account of their carrying capacity ahead.
"I'd imagine the market would be fairly strong,” Mr Bredhauer said.
"It's drying off around here and people have their oats planted and are just waiting for them to get a bit big before they buy too many cattle.”
While the bulk of the sellers will be local graziers from the Burnett and Brisbane Valley regions the buyers are coming from as far away as Victoria.
"We're expecting a bit of interstate buying support,” Mr Bredhauer said.
"One of the buyers comes from down in New South and he brings a lot of orders in from western Queensland and New South people.
"And I've been told we have a fella coming from Victoria.”
The local cattle are hot-ticket items for landholders south of the border where drier conditions have reduced herd numbers.
That, and Mr Bredhauer said our cattle fatten well.
"They grow well wherever they go,” Mr Bredhauer said.
The high concentration of Euro-cross breeds in the local herd is a bit of a treat for the southern graziers.
"They like the Limousin and Charolais-cross cattle, that's what those Victorian fellas come for,” he said.
The sale starts at 9am and all cattle will be pre-treated.
