Storm warning: Damaging winds, large hailstones
THE Bureau of Meteorology has released another warning that, at 2.45pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near the area northwest of Kingaroy and Lake Somerest, and the area of southwest of Caloundra.
These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast.
They are forecast to affect Kilcoy, Caloundra and waters off Caloundra by 3.15pm and Maroochydore, waters off Maroochydore and Wondai by 3.45pm.
THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning that includes damaging winds and hailstones this afternoon.
The warning has been issued for people in parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Dalby, Kingaroy, Esk, Injune, Gayndah, Kilcoy, Nanango and Tara.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
- Move your car under cover or away from trees.
- Secure loose outdoor items.
- Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
- Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
- Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
- For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 4pm.
If severe thunderstorms develop in the Southeast Queensland area, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.
