Stormers see off Brumbies challenge

A KICKING master class by Demetri Catrakilis and a conversion miss at the death from Christian Leali'ifano has seen the ACT Brumbies fall 25-24 to the Stormers at Newlands Stadium.

Catrakilis (pictured) kicked five penalties, a dropped goal and a conversion for a personal tally of 20 points.

A late try to David Pocock gave the Brumbies a sniff but Leali'ifano's conversion attempt hitting the post ended any thoughts of a rare victory in Cape Town.

The Stormers amassed a whopping 19 penalties to the Brumbies five which proved too much to overcome.

The majority of the penalties were awarded at scrum time, the Stormers' tight-five enjoying plenty of momentum throughout the match.

"It seemed like every time there was a scrum it resulted in a penalty. You can't win a game with 19 penalties against you," Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham said.

"Some of them the Stormers were maybe a little lucky, but the majority were silly mistakes."

Meanwhile, the Western Force recorded its second upset over the Waratahs this season with an 18-11 victory at nib Stadium.
