6:30 PM Offices, pubs and cafes across the main street of Stanthorpe are in complete darkness this evening as a storm tears over the town and the rain continues to pour.

The Central Hotel's Renee Meehan said it was the second time in the last few weeks the pub has been drenched in rain.

"It comes up the balcony and at the back through the kitchen," she said.

"It wrecked a lot of cask wine a couple weeks ago. I don't really know what you can do."

Stanthorpe Plaza was also smashed by the rain with the main food court turning into a temporary slip and slide.

Workers from Millers and shopping centre staff were doing the best they could but the carpet in the Millers store was saturated in minutes. They said the centre floods every time in rains.

Len Leigh was on deck helping out the clean-up but said it was unavoidable.

"What are you going to do?" he asked. "It's just nature and with that amount of water blocked up, this is what happens."
