Strawberry pizza: “I just threw up a little in my mouth”

MOVE over pineapple, there is a new controversial pizza topping in town and it is causing meltdowns left, right and centre.

Earlier this week a Twitter user called MoonEmojii shared a photo of a pizza topped with - prepare yourself - strawberries, with a caption suggesting that sliced strawberry is a better pizza accompaniment than pineapple.

This is not some kind of dessert pizza with nutella, cream and a few strawberries on top, oh no, this is a full-on, greasy, savoury pizza with melted mozzarella and chopped up strawberry baked right in with the cheese.

Understandably people are freaking out because they can't comprehend why someone would defile an innocent pizza like that.

"I just threw up a little in my mouth," said one user.

Another said: "The police are on their way, I hope it was worth it."

People were so upset that someone had created such a monstrosity that the call was put out for people on both sides of the pineapple pizza debate to join forces in order to thwart their common enemy.

Twitter user Lebaenesepapi's post suggesting that pineapple and non-pineapple pizza eaters set aside their differences has racked up over 165,000 retweets, proving that unlikely friendships can form if it is for the greater good.

It seems that there is a list of fruits that most people agree are acceptable pizza toppings: tomato is good and pineapple is passable but strawberries is just wrong.

We do have to give props to the creator of the infamous strawberry pizza though, for sticking to their guns when the wrath of the internet was coming down on them, even if they are so very, very wrong.
