STREET CHAOS: 15 charges after POLAIR called in

THE man allegedly at the centre of a series of dangerous driving incidents that caused chaos on the streets will face the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.

The 24-year-old Glenvale man was charged with 15 offences by Toowoomba Police on Saturday after he was arrested the night before in Kearneys Spring.

Police will allege he was involved in the assault when a stolen car knocked over and injured a uniformed officer on Spring St at 4.15pm.

The offence triggered a series of dangerous driving incidents across a seven-hour period, which involved the stolen 4WD being burnt out, two brief police pursuits, POLAIR called in to track and monitor the suspect and stingers deployed to stop the car.

He was charged with serious assault police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, arson, failure to stop, driving without a licence and other traffic related offences.

A passenger who jumped out of the stolen 4WD after the initial incident was also wanted by police for five suspected car thefts the day before.

The 21-year-old Centenary Heights man, who jumped out of the 4WD that hit a police officer in Kearneys Spring at 4.15pm, was charged with 16 offences relating to a string of incidents in Brookstead on March 16.

Police will allege the man was involved in the theft of five vehicles, including two quad bikes, as well as entering two buildings to steal items and keys.

The other passenger of the 4WD, a 40-year-old woman, was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The entire evening captivated social media users, who effectively live-blogged the event as it entered nearly a dozen suburbs across the Toowoomba region.
