Student brings home gold at cross-country titles

NANANGO State High School student Paige O'Connor has brought home medals in her first School Sport National Cross-Country Titles.

"It was exciting but I was a bit nervous too,” Paige said.

Paige, who was a member of the Queensland under-12 girls' team, won gold in the team event.

The relay team she was in also won bronze and Paige ran the fastest leg.

It was a great experience for the Year 7 student, who was tested by the harsh Tasmanian winter conditions that brought strong winds.

Paige hopes to put in a solid performance at the Wide Bay 1500m athletic trials this weekend.

It is a step towards her goal to be one of only two Queensland girls selected to represent the state in the event later in the year.
