Sunk dinghy means jellyfish stings for rescued boaties
TWO fishermen have been rescued this morning after the boat they were travelling in sank in Deception Bay.
Police say they were notified around 4:30am that the 3.9-metre dinghy had started taking on water off Beachmere Beach.
Water Police, Volunteer Marine Rescue, Coast Guard and an emergency helicopter were sent to the area to try and locate the vessel.
The two men, aged 23 and 25, were located around 1 nautical mile offshore.
They had to be taken to hospital for injuries sustained from jellyfish stings.
Sergeant Daniel Moyle from Brisbane Water Police stated: "It's fortunate that these fishermen were wearing life jackets as this could have ended quite differently."
"Police would like to use this incident as an opportunity to warn boaties to check their vessels for seaworthiness, emergency supplies and age appropriate life jackets."
