Sunshine Coast shines at Queensland Tourism Awards

SUNSHINE Coast tourism operators have taken out four accolades at this year's Queensland Tourism Awards, which celebrate the dedicated individuals and successful operators of the state's $23 billion tourism industry.

The Sunshine Coast region collected three silver and one bronze awards.

Tourism Noosa took home two awards: a silver in the destination marketing category and a bronze for the Noosa Food and Wine 2016 in the festivals and events category.

Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat won silver in the hosted accommodation category, while Australia Zoo received silver in the major attractions category.

This year, the awards attracted about 160 entries from across the state.

QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said the 32nd Queensland Tourism Awards had attracted an outstanding array of tourism operators.

"I applaud the winners of our 28 business, event and individual categories. These dedicated operators and their staff have shown the true spirit of our vibrant tourism industry," he said.

"Queensland's tourism industry has emerged as a powerhouse of the state's economy, contributing $22.8 billion in local expenditure and employing more than 233,000 Queenslanders, with enormous opportunities ahead for our regions and destinations.

Tourism Minister Kate Jones said the Queensland Tourism Awards recognised excellence in Queensland's growing tourism industry.

"The Queensland tourism industry is booming thanks to tourism operators who deliver the products and experiences that keep our visitors coming back for more," Ms Jones said.

"Congratulations to Australia Zoo, Tourism Noosa and Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat for their efforts and for showcasing the best of Queensland to visitors."
