SUPER SEVEN: Tradies giving it their all for the Mustangs

THE Murgon Mustangs seem to have the winning edge three rounds into the South Burnett Rugby League season.

The players' bond on and off the field could be key to the team's success - seven of Murgon's players are also colleagues.

Michael Giles has pulled on a Mustangs jersey for the first time in two years and is joined in the team by six of his mates and co-workers.

"I am loving playing with a bunch of good mates and having a good time,” Giles said.

Blake McMahon, Jeff Vaughn, Lehman Brunjes, Justin Giles, Kyal Dennis and Sanjaya T.a all play for the Mustangs and work at James Giles Plumbing.

Caleb Holland, who also works at James Giles Plumbing, is playing in the South Burnett Eagles under-18 team this season.

There's 16 years between the youngest player, Caleb, and the oldest player, Kyal, but their shared love of league unites them.

"We seem to get along really well and it makes working fun,” Giles said.

After snapping a bone in his hand in a car accident in 2017, Giles was kept off the field last year, but he is happy to be back alongside his brother Justin who suffered shoulder and head injuries in the car crash.

While it is a struggle for the boys to all get to training and games due to their workload, they work together to make it happen.

Giles said the boss, James, who would be playing if it weren't for an injury, made sure they all knocked off in time for games.

"He supports us every way and has been there at every game to watch us play,” Giles said.

Their job takes them from Far North Queensland to NSW but Giles said they tried their best to keep their training up on the road.

"If we are away working we go out to the oval and throw a footy around,” he said.
