Surfer attacked by shark treated by Westpac pilot
A SURFER has been attacked by a shark on the New South Wales Central Coast.
The 42-year-old from Berkeley Vale suffered minor puncture wounds to his left hand after being bitten about 6:15am at Shelly Beach, north of Gosford.
He was treated at the scene by an off-duty Westpac rescue helicopter pilot.
Wyong Beach superintendant Trevor Roberts said the man had only just entered the water and was about four metres offshore when the attack occurred.
"We think he's landed on top of the shark," he said.
"He's got a puncture wound to his left hand and he's got about an eight-inch diameter set of teeth marks in the board, but he is fine."
