The surfing sisters dubbed the ‘Aussie Kardashians’

GOLD Coast sisters Ellie-Jean Coffey, 22, and 17-year-old Holly-Sue have racked up over one million followers on Instagram thanks to a heady combination of surfing prowess and smoking hot bikini shots.

Photos of their glamorous lifestyle earned them the nickname the "Kardashians of the surfing world" and they have made newspaper headlines around the globe.

The tanned stars, who are huge fans of Kim Kardashian, aren't surprised by the comparison to the American family.

Speaking to Sunrise, Ellie-Jean said: "We obviously can see why we're compared because of the whole family unit.

"But, obviously we're talented - and not fabulously wealthy."

The Coffeys are competing in the Australian Open of Surfing in Sydney this week (they were both wildcard entries).

The pair shot to fame on Instagram thanks to sun-kissed shots of them posing on the beach in over 1,000 bikini pictures.

Their Instagram feeds sometimes include siblings Jackson, 21, Ruby-Lee, 16, and Bonnie-Lou, 13.

The family began living a nomadic lifestyle over ten years ago. The girls' mother Kym suffered a broken neck and their bricklayer father Jason had an epiphany - he sold the family home to fund their travels and homeschooled all of the Coffey siblings along the way. They lived on the road in a caravan before settling on the Gold Coast six years ago.

"I sold the family home so I had a bit of money to go on the road," father Jason told the Daily Telegraph.

"The fact that I homeschooled all the kids has really made us all very good friends to this day."

He also doesn't shy away from the Kardashian comparison:

"At the end of the day they're a big strong family unit ... Say what you like about the Kardashians, they may not be very talented but at the end of the day they're a big strong family unit. We're more like the Kardashians in that sense than anything else."

The bronzed surf sisters are now being sponsored by Billabong and are on the books for IMG models.

Aside from being active on social media, the Coffey girls hope to qualify for a surfing pro tour which will see them travel the world competing.

And according to their publicist, this year may see the Coffey sister's fame rise to new heights - they are allegedly in the final stages of confirming a reality TV series deal with a US network.
