Swifts captain wary of dangerous Fever

SWIFTS captain Abbey McCulloch knows better than anyone how being written off can inspire a team to new heights.

It's why she and her NSW Swifts teammates have put themselves on high alert as they head to Perth chasing their second win of Super Netball on Friday.

McCulloch has no doubt the winless West Coast Fever will pull out a season best performance on Friday night - it's why she's demanding the same from her young charges.

The Swifts are chasing their second win of the season against the winless West Coast Fever.

"I suspect this one will be really close," said McCulloch, whose team boasts a win, draw and two loss record heading into the fifth round of Super Netball but who were among the pre-season favourites for the wooden spoon.

"Right now we are very inconsistent. We start well, fade off and then come back. We really need to fix this.

"I think if we can put 60 minutes of good netball together no one can touch us."

McCulloch said the Swifts have been working on finishing games strongly - a flaw which last week cost them an upset over the Queensland Firebirds in a replay of last year's grand final.

"We need to finish off better. We really let things slide against the Firebirds and it cost us,'' she said.

West Coast Fever has yet to notch a win in four rounds and sit on the bottom of the league table.

"That just means they will be fighting for one harder than ever this week," McCulloch said.

While the Swifts head to Perth, the Giants will look to extend their winning run in the competition to five when they take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Canberra on Sunday.
