‘Take a serious look at your actions’: Bob Abbot

FORMER mayor of the Sunshine Coast Bob Abbot says Noosa councillor Jess Glasgow’s actions on The Bachelorette have brought local government as a whole into disrepute.

Cr Glasgow, 36, was booted off the hit reality TV program last night by bachelorette Angie Kent.

“You’ve made a lot of the makeup artists and crew not feel very uncomfortable and if there’s anything in my entire life I’ve been super sure of, it’s that I would never allow a man to come in and f--- with my sisterhood,” Ms Kent said of Cr Glasgow.

“I know my gut. After everything I’ve heard I don’t believe a word you say and I don’t trust you and I’m sorry but you’re going to have to leave.”

Cr Glasgow has been asked to stand down from his position and labelled a “vile misogynist” by his own mayor Tony Wellington.

Mr Abbot only watched a snippet of Wednesday night’s program but has followed the events on social media.

Former Sunshine Coast mayor Bob Abbot never once had to refer a councillor to the Office of the independent Assessor.

He said as an individual, Cr Glasgow’s action were “very inappropriate” and “demeaning” and echoed Cr Wellington’s advice.

“That’s what I would be saying to him in private,” Mr Abbot said.

“He has very much brought local government in general into disrepute.

“He (Cr Glasgow) certainly made some individual moves — like offering the key to the shire, that stuff is very inappropriate.”

Mr Abbot, whose career in local government spanned from 1982 to 2012, said he had never had to refer someone to the Office of the Independent Assessor.

Mr Abbot said Cr Glasgow should take a “serious” look at his conduct on the dating show and decide for himself.

“I am not in a position to predict what the assessor might say but I don’t know whether there can be any other action taken,” Mr Abbot said.

“Ultimately, if he decides to stand again, the people will decide.”
