Taxi stolen and driver assaulted

POLICE are investigating after a taxi driver was assaulted and had his cab stolen in Surfers Paradise overnight.

Around 1.40am the 34-year-old taxi driver was dropping off a male and two female passengers on Hamilton Avenue when the man became aggressive after paying the fare.

He struck the driver in the face before continuing to assault him.

The taxi driver walked away from the vehicle when two other men ran towards him. He sustained minor injuries and received treatment from paramedics at the scene.

The taxi station wagon was then stolen from the location and was later found by police about 200 metres away on the same street.

The male passenger is described as being Caucasian in appearance with a slim build, short brown hair and wearing a white shirt and dark jeans.

The two female passengers are described as being Caucasian in appearance with one having long straight brown hair and the other having long curly brown hair.

Investigations are continuing.
