Teacher runs with fitness hero on Valentine's Day
A KINGAROY teacher got the opportunity to run with one of his running heroes on Valentine's Day.
St Mary's Catholic College teacher Scott Collier decided to enter a competition on the Garmin Australia Facebook page.
"I had been following Garmin for a while and there was a competition to run with Drew Willis on Valentine's Day, a run date,” Mr Collier said.
"I found out a few days before that I had won.
"The run was from Wooroolin to the other side of Tingoora, it was 15km with a 7.5km turnaround.”
Mr Collier said while Mr Willis wasn't well known outside of the running community, for those who followed Garmin, a technology company with a strong sport section, he was a celebrity.
"He's a top bloke, a great fella,” he said. "He also came to the school, so for the ones that recognised him, they were excited about it.
"Myself and a couple of members of the local Nutters running group did the run.”
Mr Collier said the run had inspired him to run even more.
"In January my step father had a stroke,” he said.
"I hit a bit of a wall for a while and I didn't have the time or motivation to go for a run.
"I had written in my response how that happened.
"I said it would be a bit of a pick me up and if I had won I would love to share the opportunity with the students here at the school and the running group.”
