Teams go head to head in netball grand final
THE rivalry between Kingaroy and Nanango surfaced again on Friday, this time in the form of the netball grand finals.
Both the cadets and juniors had teams from Kingaroy and Nanango, with close matches between the two teams.
Cadet player of the match was Paige O'Connor of Purple Lightning and juniors was Tahlia Goschnick from the Ferocious Pandas.
Nanango Netball Association president Sheena Lindholm said the strong season finished with an even stronger grand final.
"We were very proud of how the girls performed on the night,” she said.
"They were very close throughout the season and that made the finals that more exciting.
"The junior competition was the closest match between the Purple Lightning and Dynamite, with each of them leading a quarter, but it was the last quarter that took Purple Lightning home.”
Mrs Lindholm said the club was in the process of securing grants for a much needed renovation of the Nanango netball courts, which would hopefully improve player technique.
"We're really looking forward to next year, we've got some new coaching and umpiring programs which will help raise the quality of our netball,” she said.
"Next year for us is all about getting back to basics and getting up to Netball Queensland standards.”
