Teen accused of stabbing to face court again in June

A SOUTHSIDE teenager was released on bail yesterday after appearing at Gympie Magistrates Court following a stabbing on Cootharaba Rd.

Zackaria Dallas Packer, 17, entered no plea to charges of unlawful wounding and deprivation of liberty and was given strict bail conditions, including a curfew and living with his father on the Gold Coast.

Police alleged at 8.15pm on Wednesday night a 25-year-old man walking along Cootharaba Rd was approached by a man armed with a knife. The 25-year-old was assaulted several times and was cut on his left lower arm and bruised on the face, they allege.

He was taken to Gympie Hospital, where he was treated with stitches and given pain relief.

It is believed the two men are known to each other.

Gympie CIB Detective Sergent Robert Lowry said it was a dangerous incident, but the community could be reassured that the offender and victim were known to each other. Investigators had not found a knife by late yesterday.

After Packer was released from the watch house yesterday, he climbed into a car which sped off, clipping a Channel Seven cameraman standing on the road filming him.

Packer will face a committal mention in Gympie on June 15.
