The Drive's DVD goes gold

BYRON BAY'S maestros of metal, Parkway Drive, have smashed their way to success with their second DVD release, "Home is for the Heartless".

Reaching gold sales status after its first day of release with more than 7500 copies shipped out, band manager Graham Nixon said he was hopeful that DVD sales would continue to rise.

"The DVD market is hard to predict, however given the success of the last DVD, we would have been disappointed if it didn't do well," Mr Nixon said.

The 75-minute DVD, shot in 42 countries on five different continents, is a travelogue and an in-depth look at Parkway Drive on and off stage.

"It's the type of DVD that you can watch even if you didn't like the band," Mr Nixon said.

Home is for the Heartless is described as more than just a film about five musicians making music.

It's about the power of music and its ability to communicate beyond language, geographical or cultural boundaries.

The DVD follows the band's hugely successful 2009 eponymous DVD, Parkway Drive, which achieved platinum sales and enjoyed critical success.

It won the Rolling Stone Award for Best Music DVD.

At present the band is in Los Angeles recording a new album which is expected to be released some time in October.

Mr Nixon said it would be interesting to see how the latest DVD would chart given that the previous offering was beaten to No 1 by Michael Jackson and this year Justin Bieber was charting strongly.
