The jolly man behind the red mower, spreading cheer

THIS Christmas Warwick residents might catch a glimpse of a jolly man aboard a red chariot.

He might not be Santa, but Graham Buchner is just as devoted to spreading holiday cheer in time for Christmas.

Riding his bright red lawn mower, Mr Buchner patrols a 2km stretch of the Cunningham Hwy at the entrance to Warwick.

A sign on the front of Mr Buchner's mower proudly displays his role as a volunteer.

Mr Buchner said he put the sign on so passers-by would know he wasn't doing it on behalf of any organisation.

"It's just a passion of mine, I've always thought if you keep your front yard clean people will think the rest matches," he said.

"I've been in Warwick for 60 years and I'll never leave, I'm happy to be doing this on my own.

"I knew I could handle it and I figure most people will have to come through here on their way in or out of town."

Next year will mark 25 years since Mr Buchner began his mission to tidy up the Tidy Town.

Mr Buchner is the only member left from the Warwick Clean Up Group but has no plans to stop.

Now he uses his own mower with fuel supplied by Frasers Livestock Transport and Wickham Freight Lines.

For his fellow Warwick residents Mr Buchner had one piece of advice.

"Don't litter," Mr Buchner said. "Let's keep Australia beautiful."

Warwick's weekend warrior will be back again on Christmas Eve with a warm welcome for all.
