Threat of police taser stops brawler in his tracks

A MAN narrowly avoided a police taser after becoming aggressive towards a hotel security guard early Sunday morning.

Stanthorpe police were called to the Central Hotel about 12.45am yesterday with reports a man had been kicked out of the pub but refused to move on.

Police said the man, 47, had been told to leave by security but returned a short time later and became violent towards staff.

Police pulled a taser and cautioned the man who then was arrested and charged with public nuisance.

Less than two hours later, police were called back to the Central Hotel with reports of a disturbance outside the licensed premises.

Police issued a move-on direction to a 23-year-old man involved in the disturbance to which he initially complied, before returning to the pub a short time later.

He was charged with disobeying the order and was in the process of being taken to a nearby residence by police when another man was seen kicking over a rubbish bin.

Police issued the man with a $365 fine for public nuisance.
