"After forcing entry it appears that the group have assaulted a male that was inside the house and when the two females who live at the home have attempted to intercede in the argument they were assaulted by the group of males," Det Act Snr Sgt Ingram said.

"It would appear the occupants were just having a meal, cooking dinner etc. when the door was forced in.

"During the assault a number of the occupants have unfortunately fallen over the balcony. Once they have gone over the balcony they have escaped the scene and the offenders have then fled the area.

"They were tracked by a dog squad to a unit in Randwick St.

"I believe the track was a bit stilted, along the way there was evidence found from the break and enter which caused the dog unit to have to stop but it would appear the track was a fairly clean one and took the officer directly to the residence of the offenders."

The three victims, a 28-year-old man, 23-year-old woman and 33-year-old woman were all transported to Rockhampton Hospital with injuries from being kicked and punched.

Det Act Snr Sgt Ingram said while the two females have been released, the 28-year-old man remained in Rockhampton Hospital and the extent of his injuries was at this stage unknown.

"At this stage we have two in custody and there will be a review of what evidence we have and we'll be speaking again with the victims in relation to this matter and should there be any further charges they will be referred at a later time," he said.

"We are still making inquiries into the information provided by the victims."

Det Act Snr Sgt Ingram said a handbag was stolen in the incident and some damage was done to the unit.

"There will be further inquiries done, we've had a forensic examination completed this morning and if there are any further fingerprints or otherwise that we need to run out that will take place," he said.

"We are still working on the motive at this point in time. I believe the parties are known to each other and that is what has assisted in some of the identification of the offenders."

Det Act Snr Sgt Ingram said the incident was extremely concerning.

"Any instance where you are at home just doing your thing cooking or otherwise and then to be forced in upon by a group of people would be a harrowing experience," he said.
