Time to snuggle up your homely space for winter

WE ALL know about spring cleaning - but with autumn just around the corner, now is a great time to reorganise your home in preparation for the cooler months ahead. From storing your fans and dusting off your heaters, to reorganising your wardrobe, here are a few tips to feather your nest.

Lush layers and textures: Add lush layers and textured fabrics such as oversized cable-knit throws in pure wool and waffle weave cotton to create warmth and coziness for your space. The Design Times' Kate St James suggests using fabrics like "velvet and corduroy, cashmere, wool and other fleeces for upholstery, cushions and throws - it's easy to keep warm and cosy if you choose natural fabrics."

Winter white: A winter white bedroom has never been so cool while being cosy at the same time. An all-white bedroom, with a lovely white duvet cover and bedding in natural cotton and linen is perfect for cooler nights, adding an instant Scandinavian chic to your decor scheme.

Rearrange your wardrobe: Unless you're lucky enough to have limitless built-in wardrobe space, you'll need to rearrange your clothing space. Place your winter woolies up front and move your summer clothing, either into storage or in a secondary place in your wardrobe. Vacuum sealable bags are always a good option when storage space is limited.

Warm underfoot: While bare floorboards and mats are great in summer, a cosy rug underfoot will make all the difference in the cooler months. Placing a lovely rug near the bed will make all the difference when you get out of bed on cool mornings and corridors and living spaces will be that much more welcoming with a lovely wool rug.
