Top graffiti artist adds a stroke of vibrancy for Byron

SHE has exhibited with Banksy in London and was included in his "best graffiti artists in the world" festival - and now Byron Bay can see the work of Sydney artist Shannon Crees in an exhibition opening today.

Ms Crees was the only Australian artist chosen for Banksy's Can's Festival in 2008 and has forged an impressive career, specialising in large artworks and live painting shows.

This week she brings her bohemian works to the Bay in collaboration with local fashion labels Hoipolloi and Pirates Dreaming at their Lawson St pop-up shop.

The Butterfly Collector artworks to be shown in Byron are an extension of her recent solo London show. She said the themes of beauty in nature, birds and butterflies fitted with Byron Bay's spirit.

"My work is very colourful and optimistic. It's feminine in the male-dominated field of street art," she said.
