TRADIES: How often do you go to the doctor?

FOCUSING on your overall health is important when you work in a trade.

This is why tradies need to make regular visits to a general practitioner, to ensure their health is on track.

Taabinga Family Practice manager Loretta Flanagan said there were many factors determining how often tradies should see their doctor.

"It depends on their age, as different risks can arise as they get older,” Ms Flanagan said.

"Whether or not they have any pre-existing medical concerns will also mean they might need to come more regularly.”

Ms Flanagan said if any medical worries needed to be addressed, a general practitioner should be the first point of call.

"It's always important to get in with a doctor if you have medical concerns,” she said.

She said it was important to listen to your body.

"If there's anything you feel is not right within yourself, you should know. You're the best keeper of your body and you will know if something is wrong, so it's important to not ignore it,” Ms Flanagan said.

She said a shortage of doctors in the region could be one reason tradies failed to make doctor's appointments.

In order to address this, she suggested booking with a local practice in advance and not leaving medical concerns to the last minute.
