Tree comes crashing down

IT WAS a close call for Nanango's Bradly and Tracey Thompson.

During Saturday night's storm, just metres from their house, a 9m tree fell on Ms Thompson's Holden Barina.

It narrowly missed the couple's dog kennels and shed where two other cars were parked.

And four metres away the couple were inside their house with their four-year-old grandson, Levi.

Ms Thompson said the storm, which happened about 5pm, lasted about 20 minutes.

"There was a lot of strong winds and heavy rain," she said.

"We didn't even notice that the tree had fallen until I looked out of the bedroom window and saw it.

"I feel lucky it wasn't a few more metres over."

Strong winds also blew trees over into the Thompsons' fence line, took out a few window awnings and the roofs off of their machinery and hay sheds.

The estimated damage is at least $20,000.

About 300m behind the Thompsons' property, Nev Burville, who lives on the Burnett Hwy, had his shed's roof torn off by the storm.

"We've been building a new house down the road and all our furniture was in a shed and we lost the roof," he said.

"But the SES was great and came down to put a tarp over it."
