Tributes flow for war veteran killed in crash

THE man killed in a horror single vehicle rollover west of Toowoomba last week is being mourned by his local community which is in shock over the tragedy.

Malcolm Stevens died at the scene of the crash at Wallumbilla on Friday morning after his vehicle he was travelling in with a woman, 21, and three children rolled off the Warrego Hwy.

As the cause of the crash is investigated, tributes have flowed for the Vietnam veteran, dedicated community man and beloved father from Emerald in Central Queensland.

"He was a wonderful man. Thought of everyone but himself," a close friend wrote in tribute on social media.

"Would do anything for his family and friends and brought so much love to so many.

"What an incredible father, a cherished husband and wonderful friend.

"I'll miss you Malcolm. Your grinning face as you walked through my fate, your long belly laugh and our interesting conversations."

Three children aged between seven and 11 were airlifted, along with a woman, from the crash scene by rescue helicopter hours after the 8am crash.

The children were airlifted to Brisbane's Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in a stable condition while the woman was airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital.
