Trio nuts about annual road trip
KINGAROY'S Neil Jones, Les Porter and Ricko Reick are about to embark on an epic journey from the heart.
The travelling trio will be taking part in the upcoming Great Endeavour Rally, an astonishing 4000km drive stretching all the way from Toowoomba to Yeppoon via the Gulf.
The South Burnett entrants will rally their way across the state for a great cause with all proceeds raised going to the Endeavour Foundation.
The trio's mammoth expedition will help to support more than 3350 people with a disability from 230 locations across Queensland and New South Wales.
Funds raised from this year's rally will help Endeavour Foundation build a new food handling facility at Wacol, providing meaningful employment opportunities for people with a disability.
Neil Jones and Les Porter could be considered Endeavour Rally veterans with Porter having taken part since 1999, while Jones will be making his eighth start in next week's annual event.
Third member of the crew, Ricko Reick, will be making his Endeavour Rally debut after being a long-time supporter of the event.
Current limousine driver Porter accentuated the personal highlight of his annual epic trip.
"The proudest moment is when you're sitting at the last dinner of the rally and they announce how much you've raised," he said.
"When you find out how much you've raised that's the big thing as it gives you the drive to take part and you feel good. It's not a race it's a fundraising event."
After travelling thousands of kilometres during the past 13 events, Porter still had the desire to hit the road.
The experienced outback driver thanked the people who each and every year make his rally adventure a reality.
"Without sponsorship and people who buy our tickets we can't do it," he said.
The group heads off on Sunday morning and will be doing last minute fundraising tonight and tomorrow night at the Kingaroy RSL and Kingaroy Hotel.
