IN PHOTOS: Mailbox fun brings Christmas cheer in drought

CONTRASTED against the dry, cracking red dirt of a drought-parched central Queensland are the Christmas-covered mailboxes of the 605 mail run.

Any and all mailboxes along this run in the Kilcummin region were invited to get involved in the Christmas festivities in the second annual decorative competition.

Kasie Scott from Paradise Downs said the competition was just a bit of fun to lift the spirits of a tired community.

"The school bus driver Debbie Gibson got this up and running last year and the kids just love it," she said.

"It gives families a reason to smile and get involved."

The winners, judged by the Pervis family, who do the mail run were...

  • Best night display: Paradise Downs
  • Best recycled display:  Double-D
  • Best decorated: Amaroo
  • Most creative: Yackadoo
