Turtles out for a safe night on the town
IN A shell shocking development, the true identity of the four ninja turtles that patrolled Rosewood streets on Tuesday night can now be revealed.
Rosewood's David Smith, Carol Moore, Margaret Schindler and Ivan Schindler were captured by Safe City cameras dressed up as characters from the cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Rosewood residents were attending a Safe City forum hosted by Cr David Pahlke when the quartet appeared on the screens.
For those who didn't watch the show, four turtles - Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael - took on baddies from their base in the storm sewers of New York.
As far as we know there were no baddies on the streets of Rosewood on Tuesday night.
If there were, they may well have been scared off by the fearsome four.
Ms Schindler, dressed as Michelangelo, said any would-be hoodlums "weren't game to come within a cooee of us".
"We are part of the Lions club and when the secretary mentioned there were two members of the club going to the (Safe City) meeting we thought we had to give them something to look at," she grinned.
"Carol had made the costumes and we thought it would be a lot of fun.
"They weren't expecting it because we didn't tell anyone.
"We put on our little act for about an hour ... walking around like tough turtles. No-one was game to take us on."
The quartet was resplendent in shells and masks made from egg cartons.
They had all the ninja gear too, even if it was plastic.
"I had the nunchucks, Ivan had a fighting stick, Carol had the daggers and Dave had the swords," Ms Schindler said.
"There were people coming and going from the pizza shop and we offered to protect them.
"The lady in the takeaway shop got a laugh out of it. Some people ignored us and a lot honked their horns.
"A guy in the pub said to come back next Tuesday night to keep the place safe."
