Two month delay for accused killer of Korean student

THE trial of a former Ipswich man accused of murdering a South Korean student will be delayed for months as his lawyers are having trouble getting full instructions.

Alex Rueben McEwan is accused of murdering Eunji Ban, 22, during the early hours of November 24, 2013 in Brisbane's Wickham Park.

The case was returned to Brisbane Magistrates Court after a mental health court ruled last year Mr McEwan was of sound mind when the alleged offence occurred but was unfit for trial at the time.

On Monday Brisbane Magistrates Court heard Mr McEwan's lawyer Rosemary Gilbert wanted another adjournment as they were struggling to obtain instructions from their client.

"The process has started but we asked for a lengthy adjournment because it is taking quite some time," she said.

She requested a two-month adjournment.

Mr McEwan's murder case was adjourned until April 26 while a number of charges including public nuisance and wilful damage were adjourned until June 16. - APN NEWSDESK
