Uber driver crashes into coffee shop after 'seizure'
A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after suffering a suspected seizure and ploughing into a Brisbane shop front this morning.
Emergency services were called to Cowlishaw St, Bowen Hills about 7.15am today.
It is understood the woman, an Uber driver in her 50s, was driving along Montpelier Rd when she suffered a suspect seizure, hit the accelerator and crashed into the Function Express coffee shop.
She had to be cut free from the white Toyota sedan by firefighters.
Two witnesses who had been driving behind the woman and came to her aid, said she had been travelling about 20km/h before suddenly speeding off.
"She hit the accelerator, came down the hill, went over two street signs and into the building," he said.
"I jumped out, jumped over and turned the car off."
"When I got to her, I'd say yeah, she was in the middle of a fit."
She has since been taken to the Royal Brisbane hospital with minor injuries.
QFES station officer David Farrell said power and gas were cut to the building as soon as emergency services arrived on scene, with supports placed around the vehicle to prevent debris from falling.
No pedestrians were injured during the incident and the cafe was closed at the time.
No roads were blocked and traffic is flowing smoothly.
